The question of whether a piece of content was created by a human or an AI model is now one of the most important problems in digital media. Generative AI can produce photorealistic images, convincing text, and realistic audio in seconds — making visual verification alone completely unreliable.
How AI content detection works
Modern AI detection uses a combination of techniques to flag content as likely AI-generated:
- Statistical analysis of pixel patterns — AI-generated images often have characteristic noise distributions that differ from camera sensors
- Metadata inspection — AI tools like Midjourney and DALL·E embed model identifiers in file metadata that can be read directly
- C2PA assertions — when an AI tool is C2PA-compliant, it will declare itself in the manifest's c2pa.training-mining assertion
What AuthenSeal reports
AuthenSeal's AI analysis pipeline reads the embedded C2PA manifest (if present), inspects tool-specific metadata, and computes a confidence score for AI origin. The result is stored with every seal and displayed on the public verification page.
Importantly, AuthenSeal does not block AI-generated content — it labels it transparently. A human creator sealing their own work gets a "Human origin" badge. An AI-generated image sealed for archival purposes is labeled accordingly. Transparency, not censorship, is the goal.
