Frequently asked questions
What exactly is a "seal"?
A seal is a cryptographic certificate for a specific file. AuthenSeal computes its SHA-256 hash, signs it, and anchors it in time using an RFC 3161 trusted timestamp authority. For supported formats (JPEG, PNG, MP4, PDF…) we also embed a C2PA manifest, so the provenance travels with the file itself.
Do you store my files?
No. We only store the file's SHA-256 hash, the signed timestamp, C2PA manifest metadata and (optionally) the file name and MIME type. The original file never leaves your device. Anyone can later re-hash the file to prove it matches the seal.
Can I cancel or downgrade any time?
Yes. You can cancel from Settings → Subscription at any time. Your paid features stay active until the end of the billing period, then the account drops back to Free. Seals you already created remain valid and publicly verifiable forever — nothing gets deleted on downgrade.
What happens when I hit my monthly seal limit?
New sealing requests are blocked until the counter resets on the first day of the next calendar month — existing seals keep working. Upgrade to Creator or Business to raise the limit (Business is unlimited). NGOs and schools can contact us at support@authenseal.com for a 50% discount.
I have a promo or trial code. How do I use it?
Go to the Redeem page, sign in, enter your code and the plan is activated immediately for the duration encoded in the code — no credit card required. When the trial ends the account automatically returns to Free.
How do teams work?
Business and Enterprise plans include a shared team workspace. The owner invites members by email; every member can seal into the team workspace, all seals count against the team plan and are visible to all members in the Dashboard. Business supports up to 5 members, Enterprise is unlimited.
What is "AI Signal" on the verification page?
AI Signal is an informational analysis of the file (EXIF/camera metadata for images, linguistic patterns for text) that estimates whether it looks human-created, AI-generated or mixed. It is a helpful signal, not a verdict — the cryptographic seal itself does not depend on it.
Do you have an API and batch sealing?
Yes. Creator and above can seal multiple files at once from the Batch page. Business and Enterprise additionally get REST API keys (managed in Settings) with per-key IP alerting, so you can integrate sealing directly into your publishing workflow.
Is there a Windows desktop app?
Yes — SealIt Desktop is a native Windows app for Creator plan and above. It seals files directly from your computer using the AuthenSeal REST API. To set it up: (1) download the installer from the Downloads page, (2) open Settings → API Keys in your account and generate a personal API key, (3) launch the desktop app and paste the key when prompted. From then on you can drag & drop files or entire folders onto the app and every seal is automatically registered against your account — including C2PA embedding, TSA timestamp and PDF certificate generation. Batch sealing and offline-first workflow are supported out of the box.
